How might we encourage students move from a fixed to a growth mindset while alleviating teacher burden?

Brief Intro

Background

Growth mindset is a concept coined by Carolyn Dweck. The idea is that if students believe that their intelligence and ability to succeed is not fixed and embrace challenges, they are more likely to perform better.

Blackwell, L. S., Trzesniewski, K. H., & Dweck, C. S. (2007). Implicit Theories of Intelligence Predict Achievement Across an Adolescent Transition: A Longitudinal Study and an Intervention. Child Development, 78(1), 246-263. https://doi.org/10.1111/j.1467-8624.2007.00995.x

The problem

When growth mindset interventions are introduced in schools, teachers are often burdened with having to learn a new schedule a new way to interact with their student

The Outcome

I designed a mobile application to help increase access to growth mindset concepts and reduce the load that teachers are required to undertake.

Designs

Intake and personalization

In the first stages of the app, the user can Reflect on your past course performance, Identify skill sets and Learn about growth mindset and effective study habits

Upload assessment & analysis

After a students upload their assessments they receive their analysis. This is where they are supported to reframe underperformance as an opportunity to grow rather than failure.

Recommendations & Goal Setting

Once they've uploaded their assessment, the student would receive further personalized recommendations. Create a strategy using S.M.A.R.T. Goals. Also in order to Increase accountability,  they engage in peer check-ins.
